BOYLE John Hiram (aka John Hirram)

Raised in the Mount Gambier area, John was a keen follower of all sport, particularly horse racing. As a youth he worked and rode horses for both his father and another trainer Alex Shaw who trained several successful winning racehorses. John also worked as a boundary rider on Coola Station. From 1928 until he enlisted in the army on 27 October 1941 he was employed as a barman at Macs Hotel.
Attached to the 4th Garrison Brigade John was initially attached to the Rations and Quarters Section of Adelaide Company. In July 1943 he was transferred to the Northern Territory where he remained until May 1944. During this time, he was stationed at Katherine and Noomamah with John receiving his promotion to Sergeant in December 1944. John was then transferred back to the Keswick Barracks in Adelaide pending his discharge from the service on 27 May 1946.
John died in the Mount Gambier Hospital at the age of 44 years and is buried in the Lake Terrace Cemetery.
